Born in Johannesburg during February 1955 of South African mother and British father Dave was educated in Cape Town at Bergvliet, Outeniqua, and Wynberg Boys High Schools. He took two guitar lessons with Basil Haefla in Hout Street Cape Town and drove his family nuts whilst learning to play the guitar starting with songs like Chirpy Chirpy Cheap Cheap and the all time learning guitar song House of the Rising Sun
Dave has been involved in the Entertainment Industry for over 30 years, where he started entertaining international guests and tourists in bars, lounges, sun decks ships boats and coaches. He is comfortable entertaining in an acoustic environment or using professional sound equipment and lighting. Dave owns his own PA and all the equipment necessary for his performance and he plays guitar, bass pedals and uses a drum machine for the up tempo dance type music that is required from time to time. He is also capable of providing Cabaret type performances using his own backing tracks, and sometimes uses midi-backing tracks. With a repertoire of over 300 classic well-known songs embracing 50's,60's 70's 80's and recent hits, as well as the ability to tell short stories on stage he involves his audience from the moment he appears to the time the show is over.
He has had the privilege of working with very accomplished musicians such Steve Newman of Tanas fame, Paul Nissen who played lead guitar for the legendary 60's super group 4 Jacks and a Jill. He has also done sound engineering work along with Lindsay Liebenburg for Koos Kombuis, Nataniel, Eddy Ekstien, the late Tolla van der Merwe and many other talented artists.
Dave started entertaining live audience in the South Western Districts of Southern Africa namely in the heart of the Ostrich capital Oudtshoorn where he worked as a tour guide on the famous Highgate Ostrich Farm with the Hooper family. After work in the evenings he would entertain the guests who visited the farm, singing traditional songs around a camp fire. He then progressed to singing in pubs and at the local hotels such as the Caves Motel, situated on road to the famous Kango Caves and hotels such as the Holiday Inn, Queens Hotel, Criterion Hotel, Riempie Motel and various other venues in the area. He also entertained at the Red Lobster in Mossel Bay which was situated above the Marine Hotel overlooking the fishing harbour as well as along the Garden Route to George, Wilderness and Knysna and became the most popular solo act in the area during the late 70's and early 80's
His passions are entertaining, sailing and people. He has had the privilege of entertaining in Bangkok, Germany, Italy, Mozambique, Swaziland, South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, United Kingdom and even in the United States specifically in Nashville Tennessee as a guest artist. Dave performed in the Canary Islands, Lanzarote, from the 6th November until mid December 2003 and from mid December until mid January 2004 he performed at a Coastal Resort in Mossel Bay along the Garden Route in South Africa.
More recently, Dave has been entertaining in the United Kingdom especially Wimbledon area, at the Horse and Groom in Haydon Road and various Working Mens Clubs and venues in Hampshire, specifically the Red Lion, White Lion, Elm Tree and the Queens Head in North Lane Aldershot.
